After 1,200 years, the ancient Egyptian lost city of Heracleion was found underwater and explored

To put it mildly, the legend of the lost city of Atlantis has become legendary. You most certainly already know about it and what it involves, even if you don’t consider yourself a conspiracy theorist.

However, the issue with this is that it seems to be one of the only lost cities that the general public is aware of. In order to inform the public about every other city, we must concentrate our collective knowledge.

One of these is the legendary Heracleion.

Heracleion, which was formerly an ancient Egyptian metropolis, was located about 20 miles northeast of Alexandria, close to the Canopic Mouth of the Nile. It was undoubtedly one of the most stunning towns of its time.

Everyone living in Heracleion has access to everything they could possibly want.

However, according to folklore, it was submerged so deeply beneath the surface of the water that none anticipated it would surface again.

Around 1500 years ago, the fabled historian Herodotus, who lived in the 5th century BC, was the first to reference Heracleion. He mentions Helen of Troy and her lover Paris in his writing on it.

They would rush off together to Heracleion since it was such a lovely spot and play around like the young lovers they were.

It was first uncovered in 2001 by a team of archaeologists under the direction of Franck Goddio.

They certainly didn’t expect to find this while they were looking for Napoleon’s vessels from the 1798 Battle of the Nile.
